Выставка посвящена основоположнику железнодорожного дела Павлу Петровичу Мельникову (1804–1880). Отражены основные этапы жизни и деятельности выдающегося инженера путей сообщения. Экспозиция организована к 220-летию со дня рождения ученого.Представлен обзор уникальных музейных предметов и архивных документов, более 100 подлинных предметов середины ХIХ – начала ХХ в., отражающих деятельность Мельникова в Институте Корпуса инженеров путей сообщения. Описаны командировки в страны Западной Европы и США, строительство Санкт-Петербурго-Московской железной дороги — первой магистрали страны, работа на посту министра путей сообщения. Многие предметы Мельников лично доставил в музей. 

The exhibition is dedicated to the founder of the railway industry Pavel Petrovich Melnikov (1804–1880). It reflects the main stages of the life and work of the outstanding railway engineer. The exposition is organized for the 220th anniversary of the scientist’s birth.An overview of unique museum items and archival documents is presented, more than 100 authentic items from the mid-19th – early 20th centuries, reflecting Melnikov’s work at the Institute of the Corps of Railway Engineers. It describes his business trips to Western Europe and the USA, the construction of the St. PetersburgMoscow Railway — the first main line of the country, and his work as Minister of Railways. Melnikov personally delivered many items to the museum.
