Abstract
This article examines the structure and purpose of the environmental management system, as well as its ability to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Environmental, Social, Governance concept. The trend is that in the context of the global transition to sustainable development, ESG is becoming the main guideline for socially responsible investors. The companies realized that adherence to the criteria of the ESG concept makes it possible to reduce environmental risks, while demonstrating social responsibility has a positive eff ect on customer loyalty and strengthens its market position. Due to the increasing popularity of the ESG concept, as well as the low popularity of the environmental management system in society, the purpose of this work is to consider the environmental management system using the example of manufacturing industries. The emphasis is placed on the fact that currently this system is the most eff ective tool for ensuring compliance with the requirements of the environmental aspect of the ESG concept. The paper considers in detail the theoretical and legislative foundations of the environmental management system, including the issues of interaction between various departments within the framework of the main business process and the environmental management system, as well as the distribution of responsibilities between them.
