Abstract
Aim. Development of a program for engineering education to solve problems of transport industry facilities adaptation to climate change.
Object and methods. The object of the study is the training of engineering personnel for the transport industry, capable of assessing the dynamics of climate change, as well as developing adaptation and mitigation measures based on an interdisciplinary approach. The method is the analysis of the influence of climate risk factors on transport infrastructure facilities, the consequences of loss of stability of the transport network and measures for adaptation and mitigation.
Results. As an additional professional program for training personnel for the transport industry, the program “Engineering solutions for adaptation to climate change” is proposed for students interested in developing engineering skills focused on adaptation and increasing the resilience of transport infrastructure facilities to the conditions of a changing climate. It can be based on a scientifically based understanding of climate change, the impact of climate risk factors and strategies for adaptation to climate change and increasing resilience. Obtaining additional knowledge will be based on the knowledge obtained during the basic training.
Conclusion. The introduction of an additional professional training program for the transport industry “Engineering solutions for adaptation to climate change” will expand students’ knowledge of climate change and its impact on the objects of their future professional activity, as well as form a teaching group with competencies in the field of analyzing the impact of climate risk factors on transport infrastructure objects and developing measures for their adaptation and mitigation. Expanding the additional professional program to transport and engineering universities can contribute to the creation and maintenance of the university’s reputation as a leader in the development of scientifically
