Abstract

The objective of this study was to diagnose the condition of internal combustion engines (ICEs) in traction and special-purpose rolling stock by monitoring the thermal field parameters of diesel engine components and assemblies. The authors analyzed and summarized the experience of diagnosing ICEs using passive television thermal monitoring of heavily loaded ICE components by comparing the thermograms of a healthy and faulty engine.

A multifactorial functional-parametric diagnostic model was developed to analyze the impact of key ICE faults (carbon deposits on combustion chamber walls, coking of exhaust cylinder ports, etc.) on the engine’s operating heat map.

Technological solutions, recommendations, and a promising method for monitoring the technical condition of ICEs are proposed, enabling comprehensive technical diagnostics of diesel engines in rolling stock and specialpurpose track machines based on thermal field parameters.
